I've got a pretty bad case of social anxiety. I've always had it, but it has gotten worse since I've been an adult. It adversely affects my career as well as my social life, and it makes life commonly a lot more stressful than it would be otherwise. If there's one thing I could change about myself, this would be it. So what can I do? Is there a cure. Essentially — Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression, There is hope; I've been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself. Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group. Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in. The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups. I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med in addition to CBT therapy. Any questions, let me know . . I can't tell you how much this has improved my life. There are subtypes of social anxiety; it seems that yours may be both. . Click on link:

Well, like the question says. Does anyone know of a support group for adults with social anxiety in the NYC area? (Sort of like alcoholics anonymous where you can just come in and talk/listen to other people with the same problem). It would be much appreciated. Thanks. Well, I’ve your answer. There is one in New Haven CT. Check out these sites for groups. What medication would you recommend for panic attacks, anxiety, and mild depression? My panic attacks ONLY happen when my boyfriend and I are fighting and I get an intense fear of him lying, not caring about me, just a feeling of wanting to die. It's so weird because I get completely out of control and scream and cry and shake. The worst is the crying, it's like my tears eventually run out. . And think about killing myself. . This is embarassing because I know that I only contemplate "dying" when I’m in the middle of an attack. . And the attacks only last 20 min to an hour at most. I know that ending the relationship would be a better cure then taking medication. . But for now, it seems like no matter what happens, we will not break up. Its sad. . Because if you saw me or knew me other than my attacks, you would never ever guess I was one to feel this way. . So what medication would one recommend for situation specific attacks. . From what I can tell… No doctor will prescribe you anti-anxiety medication unless you also agree to make lifestyle changes. Anti-anxiety medication is generally addictive and most are controlled substances. It is for those reasons that it is meant for short-term use, doctors are hesitant to prescribe it, and it's expected you will be making lifestyle changes. The relationship itself is not the problem – it's your response to it and how you cope with relationships. When we become overly concerned with someone lying to us and not caring and develop of fear of being abandoned, it's really about our insecurities and our self-esteem. Medication isn't meant to make us more confident. Breaking up or not breaking up is a choice. You need to do what's in your own best interest. Maybe spend a little less time together while you get some counseling to help you learn to cope better. The counselor may or may not prescribe something. Understand though that addiction is a serious and more dangerous side effect than learning to cope and calm yourself. And listen. There is no shame in this. None. At one time or another everyone has these feelings. I used to feel like that all the time. Don't be embarrassed about being human.

I've read numerous articles claiming that the effectiveness of anti-depressants is vastly overstated, but what about for anti-anxiety medication? Personally, I think I could manage my depression enough to survive in the world, but my anxiety renders me dysfunctional. I have no idea how to cure social anxiety disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. People have told me that cognitive therapy works, but I've been to a few psychologists and none of them were helpful. Neither has exposure therapy been the least bit helpful. In fact, the more I've exposed myself to the world over the years the worse things have become. Essentially — Hi Jamal, I believe the root of many mental problems is negative self-image, often based on experience of little else. A solution that has worked for people I know is get an appreciation of how our creator wants us to see ourselves. Even if you are just a worrier as I was, or someone who was unsatisfied and unhappy and a nuisance or potential danger to self and others the solution is the same . . I have some testimonies of people who had depression or bi-polar but who found a new lease of life, indeed yet another life, a new nature after they became "born again". They became truly im-pressed. If you e-m me I will send them to you. If not I won't. Meantime there are some others here:

As a psychotherapist in private practice for over a decade, I certainly have seen it all: watching my clients suffer through anxiety and stress, watching them go from medication to medication looking for “the right pill”, and rarely finding it, spending inordinate amounts of money desperately trying to find the correct method to make their stress go away.
Can Anxiety Be Cured By A Pill or through Mental Health Counseling?
Anxiety is a complex issue. . . not just something that can be cured through popping a pill, or through one or two visits to a mental health counseling professional. And while a combination of both medication and counseling can be effective, unfortunately it can take years to see results. . . and often a lot of money.
If I Do Decide To Take Medication And See A Therapist, What Is The Best Type Of Therapy And Medication I Should Take To Help My Anxiety?
I cannot answer that for you specifically, because every one is different (for example, you may have an allergy that precludes you from using a certain type of medication; Or you may not take well to a specific model of psychotherapy). That said, I can say that I have seen many of my clients do gorgeous well with what is known as “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy”, in combination with a medication that their psychiatrist prescribed.
Isn’t There Any Way To Get Rid Of My Anxiety Right Away, Instead Of Waiting The Years It Can Take For Medication and Counseling to Kick In?
Yes. For every year it takes to go through therapy and anti-anxiety medication, people can actually learn to make their anxiety disappear in 10 to 15 minutes. That doesn’t mean that counseling and medication aren’t viable options. . . but they are not the end-all cure-all for anxiety. . . they are merely supplements to help you get better. The majority of the work is done by “you”. Not to mention. . . you save a great amount of your money and time.
Why Don’t Psychiatrists Ever Tell You That You Can Learn to Make Your Anxiety Disappear On Your Own?
Bottom line: Because they need to make a living. If you did not see them for visits, these docs would not be in business. Don’t get me wrong. . . there are some darn good professionals out there in the field of psychiatry.
But, the fact is, if the docs and shrinks let you know that you can learn, in 10-15 minutes, the secrets to curing your anxiety. . . they would lose a great deal of income.

I went to the physician almost 3 weeks ago to discuss weird symptoms I was experiencing. (tension headaches, heaviness in chest and throat). My physician prescribed me 0. 5mg of Ativan. It does help me sleep but I wouldn't dare take it during the day when I look after my tiny one because it makes me feel very sedated. Obviously Ativan is supposed to relax you to treat the anxiety but is there anything he can give me that I can take during the day so I don't feel so tired. Well, I have your answer right here. Some of the antidepressants also have anti anxiety properties. You may want to ask your physician about this. Maybe cutting the 0. 5 mg of Ativan in half will help your anxiety without being so sedating. I hope you and your physician will find what works best for you. Good Luck.

So, are there any recommended medications that can cure nervousness / anxiety / panic attacks and allow the brain to function faster when a man's trying to learn some things he reads, especially complex things, to understand them, and store new memory?. Tell me what you know. Well, I’ve your answer right here. Not pharmaceuticals (don't do meds in Alternative medicine), but will tell you two natural remedies: SAMe is a good anti-anxiety, brain sharpener. Take 200 mg in the morning before breakfast. You can take another 200mg later in the day, but I haven't known anyone whoever it helped that didn't notice plenty improvement on once daily dosing. Also, BioNutrition MicroAglae, BioSuperfood. (Online orders, and at trade shows ) Good stuff. If you’re taking a lot of supplements, this whole food supplement can actually replace many. There are different strengths and dosages. When you order, you can use the contact to ask questions specific to your case if you wish. MicroAlgae was developed by a Russian scientist, now living in Canada, to combat cancer deaths in his family. It has been found to help with the issues you mention too. We actually used it here for mitochondrial dysfunction, and still noted help with concentration and anxiety (which are unrelated to the mito dysfunciton. ) There are other supplements that help with one or the other of your concerns, but these two seem to deal with both at once. One other thing to think about is adrenal function. Tired adrenals can cause anxiety, depression, lack of concentration and memory. You take adrenal cortex glandular to counter tired adrenals and help them repair. In cases of adrenal fatigue, I've noted good improvement on adrenal cortex extract. For someone without any more history than you’ve provided though, I'd suggest the first two items to start with. If you want to research adrenal fatigue to see if it fits you, that would be good. Adrenal cortex glandular may be found at (as can the SAMe at the best price I've found. ) If you've never ordered from them before and decide to, use coupon code KES097 for an extra $5 off – not affiliated, just a happy customer with a coupon to share. Hope you find just the right thing to help you. Best health to you.

Knowing how to cure anxiety attacks naturally will give you power that you thought you never had when suffering from this condition. Several people have made the mistake and turned to anti depressant/anxiety medications, which have left them with more side effects than they began with.
Going this route doesn’t offer an actual cure for any anxiety issue, and as a matter of fact, medications only work on 50% of the people who even take them. The majority of the time people develop dependencies on the drugs which turn into addictions as well as side effects which actually include increased feelings of depression and even suicide.
So if medications aren’t the answer, how is someone going to be able to learn how to cure anxiety attacks naturally. The answer to that is actually very simple, yet complicated at the same time. The simplicity comes from the fact that there is 1 method that will completely cure anxiety attacks forever, but learning how to use that method is the tricky part. This method is basically training your mind to not fear another attack.
If you think of it, these attacks work in cycles. You get an attack and are terrified, then it sits in the back of your mind, and when you start to feel unease/anxiety again you think back to the feelings you had during the last attack, which sparks another attack. It is a vicious cycle. If you can master that one method, you will have learned how to cure anxiety attacks naturally.
Learning how to cure anxiety attacks naturally is something that can have you on your way to enjoying any social setting you thought you would never be a part of. It is an actual cure. You will never again feel that fear of an anxiety attack, and with that fear gone, you will never experience another attack again. This method has worked for years and has helped tens of thousands of people completely eliminate anxiety from their lives. Some people have even been cured from anxiety attacks after suffering for over 30 years.
If you don’t know how to cure anxiety attacks naturally, and are currently on medication for it, I hope you take the time to research this method because once you learn it, it can help you get off of the medications you are currently on. If you don’t know it by now, medications for anxiety are bad news. They alter your brain chemistry, and not only cause immediate problems, but prolonged ones as well. This method is all natural and will not only teach you how to cure anxiety attacks naturally, but how to identify the causes of anxiety at its beginning.

I have gad and suffer from insomnia and I was wondering what would be the best combination of herbs to take. I purchased valerian but after I blight I read it was more for insomnia. My daily anxiety is worse than my insomnia but I'm definitely looking for something to cure both. I've heard taking a combination of valerian and kava kava works well. Thanks. After looking around, I learned — St. John's Wort (wort in old English meant weed). It makes you mellow, sleepy, similar to Melatonine (stuff found in warm milk to put you to sleep). It can also be found in the vitamin/herb section of the store.

I am 14 years old and I want to take anti-anxiety pills because I am always nervous for everything. I shake and my face goes bright red, which ends up giving me more anxiety. My heart races when it comes down for a test I break down and cry the night before even if I know I will do fine. I really feel like I need something to stop this, but if I ask my parents about it they will just say "your fine, you dont need any medication, its normal to get nervous for stuff" and they will think that I am over reacting. Maybe I am over reacting, but I feel like I can’t go on anymore living this way. I fear any social situation. Do you think I should ask my parents if I can get anti-anxiety medication from my doctor? What are some pills that won’t make me gain weight, because that is one of the big things I have anxiety with. How will the pills help and what are some of the side effects? I’m starting high school next year and I go to an simple school right now, so I will go crazy next year w/out pills. I think I found an answer. I think that you do sound like you have a lot of anxiety. If Mom and Dad won't help, try talking to your school guidance counselor. He or she can help you find ways to talk to your parents. You could also talk to your dr if you have a physical coming up. Good luck, and don't let high school stress you out. It's really nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.
